Determining Your Skin Tone

Posted by Danielwalters.com on 6th Jul 2018

Eyeglasses are used as fashion accessories more and more these days, so learning what looks good on you is important. It is also a lot of fun, but the task can seem daunting. Selecting a color that doesn’t compliment your skin tone will create a flat look, and no one wants that. The first thing to do is determine your skin tone. Once you know that, and the basics about that, you will be armed to choose a frame that suits you perfectly.

There are two main categories of skin tone: Cool and Warm

Warm skin tones have yellow or green undertones while cool skin tones tend to be more blue or pink. There are the lucky few that fall into both of course, and they can base their decision on hair color.

Warm tones do well with shades of beige and other warm colors. You are probably good to go with browns, pinks, or reds if you have a warm skin tone. Colors for people with cool skin tones would be blacks, blues, greys, and blues. Tortoiseshell can go with either warm or cool, so that’s awesome because it’s always trending.

Naturally, skin tone can’t be as simple as warm and cool. These are split as well into the light, medium, and deep combined with warm or cool. The final breakdown of this leaves you with six total skin tone sub-categories:

  • Light Skin, Warm Undertones
  • Light Skin, Cool Undertones
  • Medium Skin, Cool Undertones
  • Medium Skin, Warm Undertones
  • Deep Skin, Cool Undertones
  • Deep Skin, Warm Undertones

Eyeglasses should always add dimension to your overall look. They can do that by contrasting with a lighter or darker shade. They can also complement the undertone of your skin with a more saturated color. If you have a super active lifestyle you may feel like you are condemned to boring glasses. The simple change of finding your skin tone will open you up to new possibilities.
