Full Rim vs Half Rim vs Rimless: Which frame is for you?

Posted by Danielwalters.com on 17th Aug 2017

One of the most important considerations when choosing a pair of eyeglasses is the type of frame. Not only does it define your look. It also affects how comfortable the eye wear is, as well as, your visual performance. Depending on your lifestyle, you may choose from full rim, half rim, or rimless eyeglasses.

The question is, how would you know which type of frame is right for you? Well, you’re seconds away from finding out the answer to that. Read on and find out!

Full Rim

Full rim eyeglasses come with lenses fully outlined with a metal or plastic frame. Full rim eyeglasses are the best type of frames to highlight those beautiful eyes! Nothing grabs attention more than a full-bodied look.

Full rim eyeglasses are also the sturdiest out of the three frame types. It can withstand frequent accidental drops which is ideal for people with inclination to sports or just anybody with a motor lifestyle. Parents are also advised to get their kids full rim eyeglasses because of the exact same reason.

Full rim eyeglasses can also accommodate large and thick lenses. Half rim and rimless eyeglasses would not be able to handle these lenses because of their lightweight structure.

One small problem with full rim eyeglasses is that they tend to be a little heavier than half rim and rimless eyeglasses, but it should not be a big deal for those who don't mind the extra weight.

Half Rim

Half rim eyeglasses come with lenses covered only by top rims. You can emphasize the upper portion of your eyes wearing half rim eyeglasses to create more sophisticated look. This type of frames is lightweight, perfect for people who use their glasses for long periods of time. It is also much preferred because of the comfort it provides.

Since the bottom part of the lenses are exposed and prone to shatter, this type of frames is recommended for people who do not participate in motor sports.

Rimless

Rimless eyeglasses, as the name suggests, are glasses without rims. The lenses simply rely on the temples and the nose bridge to create a structure. Rimless eyeglasses are perfect for those who are going for a matured look.

If you’re looking for lightweight comfort, this type of glasses is the best choice. And because it is not heavy, expect that an accidental fall is going to be low-impact. However, it is best to take extra care of this type of eye wear because they are the most delicate.
